Unbelievable!!  Who would have thought Padraig Harrington would step up and take Tiger’s place as he recovers from knee surgery in Orlando, Florida?

Harrington played the best golf of his life in winning The Open Championship, at Royal Birkdale in 30 mile per hour winds this July, and then stepped up again at Oakland Hills to take the 90th PGA Championship in a battle with Sergio Garcia and Ben Curtis.  Paddy proved to us all last year that he has what it takes when he won his first major title at The Open Championship in a playoff with Sergio Garcia at Carnoustie.

None of us thought he would win again so soon, let alone both majors to end the 2008 season in Tiger’s absence.  His game was not as sharp this past week, but his focus and determination matched the great Tiger himself.  He fought it out with Sergio, who looked like he would finally win his first Big One!  Harrington must now feel like Tiger himself having won 3 majors from 6 tries, all in different styles, and has positioned himself as the #1 player in the world - at least until Tiger Woods returns. And he will, I’m sure, be ready for the Masters in April 2009.  I have to admit that I was hoping for a Sergio victory as I believe he certainly deserves to add a major title to his already impressive resume.
