Leading up to the Ryder Cup

The first of the PGA Tour Playoffs, The Barclays, is being played this week at Ridgewood Country Club in the Garden State of New Jersey.  There will be 144 PGA Tour players to make the Playoffs based on points earned throughout the Season.

Tiger led the way with over 22,000 points, but obviously won’t be able to play, and Luke Donald is also out as he recovers from surgery as well.  You can check out all the information regarding the playoffs at www.PGATOUR.COM.

I think Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington will start as favourites to win the $10 million…yes, that’s correct $10 million. Anthony Kim has a chance as well, as he continues to prove he has what it takes to challenge Tiger for the #1 position in the World Golf Rankings into the future.  The Playoffs will be exciting for sure, as the field reduces from 144 to 120 to 70 to 30 contenders at the final at Eastlake in Atlanta following the Ryder Cup.

The Ryder Cup is coming up soon as well, and those players yet to qualify will be trying to impress both Captains with some stellar play over the next two weeks.  Woody Austin, D.J.Trahan and J.B. Holmes are three of the leading contenders for the US Captain’s choices, and need to step it up a little.  Watch for Paul Casey and Carl Petterson, as they may be fighting it out for the final place on Nick Faldo’s European team.

Paul needs to make an extra putt per day to make the most of his excellent ball striking and Carl jumped into the spotlight with his timely victory last Sunday at The Wyndham Championship played at the delightful Sedgefield Country Club.  Whoever makes the final teams; 24 players will make their way to Valhalla Golf Club next month and provide us with plenty of excitement as they battle it out for the Ryder Cup.

Who do you think will win?
