Finchy Makes Ryder Cup Predictions

Nick Faldo made his two Captains choices on Sunday for the upcoming Ryder Cup with Ian Poulter and Paul Casey, the fortunate recipients joining the European team. I feel sorry for Darren Clarke as he is the best teammate you could have, and with Lee Westwood almost unbeatable.… Paul Azinger chooses Tuesday in New York and has four anxious players to pick for the USA team. I think….Yes, I’m going on record here, he will choose Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan, Brandt Snedeker and his final will be Chad Campbell….Or, could it be one of the older guys like Woody Austin who has not played well lately; Kevin Sutherland who has played great in the play-offs; or perhaps one of the big hitters, J.B.Holmes or Bubba Watson? It’s a tough choice for Zinger as NONE of his preferred picks leading into the playoffs have jumped out or up.
Mahan has had a couple of spectacular rounds and that’s why he will get the nod, and Steve Stricker is such a nice guy you can’t leave him off the team. Steve fits in well with Justin Leonard, Phil and Stewart Cink. Chad Campbell has played well recently and has the experience (with Sneds) although winless this year, he has what it takes, and will be on many more USA teams. That’s what I think anyway.
He would love to pick Bubba and JB being such long hitters, but each one comes with too much baggage, I believe, to quite make it on the plane. They are both very fine young players with oodles of talent, but both need to work on their on-course attitudes. Simply put, JB is too slow and Bubba is worse than Colin Montgomery with his inability to block out extraneous noises and movement. This hurts their chances.
Whom ever makes the team it will be an exciting Ryder Cup. At the moment I think the Europeans have the edge…but, maybe Paul Azinger can coach the US team to an unlikely victory?
What do you think?
