COLONIAL RECAP & CONTINUED THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT

The Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial was one of the best events on Tour this year!  Colonial Country Club presented itself beautifully after a recent renovation.  Tour players all rated it highly in terms of course set up and changes.

The field was one of the strongest all year, featuring six of the top 10 ranked players in the World, and six of the top eight on the Fed Ex Cup standing.  I was disappointed for Tim Clark and Steve Marino in losing out to Steve Stricker in a two-hole playoff.  Tim should have won, but squandered a two stroke lead with five to go.  I feel for Tim, as this is his seventh second place finish on Tour without receiving a single victory.  The win is just within his grasp.  Both he and Steve Marino will win many titles I am sure – and I hope for them it comes soon.

I played with Tim in the opening two rounds, and was thoroughly impressed with his overall game.  As for my game, I truly enjoyed the experience of coming back after more than a decade away from competitive golf, to play on Tour once again.  I had to do it sometime and thought what better course or tournament than the Colonial where I won my first PGA tour title 20 years ago.

My nerves were solid especially during my first round of 68, but for a few latches in concentration during the first nine on Friday, I felt pretty good about my performance.  It was difficult, to say the least, having not performed publicly for so long, and having CBS cameras on me at all stages, only added to the pressure.

I’d like to thank all my supporters for their emails, texts and general well wishes, including all my CBS/television family, for their support and encouragement.

I have never felt so much goodwill surrounding me, like I did last week.  The overwhelming outpour of such kindness was truly encouraging.  Thank you to you all.  Watch out for me next year at Colonial, I’ve already entered!
